OVERVIEW

Andros is one of the most beautiful Cycladic islands and offers an unforgettable hiking experience for the traveller who will choose it. It is a destination that will impress the visitor with its traditional Cycladic architecture and its beautiful beaches.

The hiker will love trekking in a place where he can admire the neverending blue of the Aegean. The traditional pure white settlememts he will meet on his way will make him understand that the island has much more to offer than just its beaches.

What makes it different from other Cycladic islands is its greenery: small bushes, herbs, colourful flowers, orange and olive trees. Along the way the hiker will come across small waterfalls and brooks, walk over arch bridges and see unique buildings such as the pigeon towers, which can be found only in the Cyclades.

Andros Trail has been certified as Leading Quality Trail /Best of Europe by the European Ramblers Association (ERA) and, a stone’s throw away from Athens it is definitely an ideal destination for those who love hiking.

About Route

 Andros 03 Itinerary

The trail begins at the beautiful village of Frousaioi and after of more than 100 kms ends in the village of Batsi. The trail is described as moderate, with an average daily mileage of 1 kms, is well marked and it has sufficient path maintenance.

The paths have different texture, they can go from old wall mule tracks to dirt roads and even a few narrow paths. All tracks are in perfect condition and well-marked with walking signs. They will not be difficult because there are barely any segments that are a bit steep or with loose stones.

Time of Year

Spring and Autumn are of course the best time for hiking on an island as the temperatures are milder and the colors of nature enchanting. In summer, hiking is not prohibitive, but especially in July and August we recommend hiking starting early in the morning as temperatures can reach quite high levels during the day. April and October, dining options in taverns and restaurants may be somewhat limited, especially on weekdays.
